Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of Merrou, including the creation of a digital twin, sharing information with chosen audiences, and chatting with AI-generated representations.
1. Who provides Merrou and how you accept these Terms
Merrou (the “Service”) is provided by Suzhou Maifangbao Technology Co., Ltd. (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a company established in the People’s Republic of China. By checking the agreement box and signing in, creating an account, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- The Service is currently intended only for people who are at least 18 years old.
- You must provide accurate account information and keep access to your email or Google account secure.
- You are responsible for activity under your account and must promptly tell us if you suspect unauthorized use.
- You may not create accounts through deception, impersonation, or automated abuse.
3. What the Service does
Merrou lets you create and maintain an AI-based digital twin using profile details, persona settings, notes, memories, imported documents, photographs and descriptions that you choose to provide. You can mark material as public, private, or available to selected relationship groups. Signed-in users may find listed profiles, request or receive relationship access, and chat with a digital twin subject to those permissions.
Features, supported file types, limits, models, and availability may change as the Service develops. We may impose reasonable limits to protect security, reliability, users, and legal compliance.
4. AI disclosure, generated-content labels, and safe use
- Digital-twin replies are generated by AI. The chat interface identifies the experience as an AI twin; this is a disclosure that you are interacting with software, not the represented person.
- AI can misunderstand context, invent details, reproduce bias, or produce unsuitable content. You must independently check information before acting on it or sharing it.
- Do not remove, hide, falsify, or misuse AI-generated-content labels. If you publish or forward generated content, disclose its AI-generated nature whenever the context or applicable law requires it.
- The Service is not an emergency service and is not designed to replace real relationships, qualified professionals, or your own judgment. If someone may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or a trusted person.
5. Your content and the permissions you give us
You keep any rights you hold in profile information, persona fields, notes, memories, files, images, image descriptions, messages, and other material you submit (“User Content”). You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, format, extract, index, embed, transmit, display, and otherwise process User Content only as needed to operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Service and to comply with law. This license ends when the content is deleted, except for residual backup copies and records we must retain by law.
You must have the rights, authority, and any legally required consent to submit User Content, especially another person’s personal information, private communications, likeness, photograph, or copyrighted work. Do not create a digital twin of another person or present AI output as that person’s real statement unless you have clear authorization.
We do not use your private messages or other sensitive interaction data to train a general-purpose model unless we first obtain any consent required by applicable law.
6. Visibility and sharing controls
You choose whether eligible profile and knowledge content is public, private, or limited to relationship groups. Public information may be seen by other users and used to ground conversations with your digital twin. Relationship-limited content may be used in chats with people in the selected group. Private content is available to you and may be processed to operate your own twin, but is not provided to other users’ chat context.
A chat visitor separately decides whether the represented account owner may read that conversation. If sharing is turned on later, the owner may be able to read earlier messages in the same conversation. No technical control can prevent an authorized recipient from copying or disclosing information after they receive it, so choose content and permissions carefully.
7. Acceptable use
You may not use the Service to:
- break the law, violate another person’s rights, or evade sanctions or regulatory requirements;
- impersonate, defame, harass, threaten, exploit, manipulate, or deceive another person;
- encourage self-harm, violence, terrorism, sexual exploitation, abuse of minors, or other serious harm;
- obtain or expose secrets, credentials, private data, or sensitive personal information without authority;
- upload malware, probe security, scrape at scale, interfere with the Service, or bypass access controls;
- infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity, portrait, reputation, or confidentiality rights;
- misrepresent AI-generated material as an authentic statement or act of a natural person; or
- use output as the sole basis for high-impact decisions about another person.
We may investigate suspected misuse and warn, limit, suspend, or terminate accounts or content when reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance, or enforcement of these Terms.
8. Our intellectual property
The Service, software, interface, branding, and related materials are owned by us or our licensors. These Terms give you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service as intended. They do not transfer ownership of our technology or third-party models to you.
9. Third-party services
Merrou relies on third-party services for sign-in, hosting, databases, storage, and AI processing, including Google, Supabase, Vercel, and AI model providers. Their systems may be subject to their own terms and policies. We are responsible for selecting and managing processors as required by law, but we do not control services you choose to access outside Merrou.
10. Changes, suspension, and account deletion
You can stop using Merrou at any time and can delete your account from Settings. Account deletion is intended to permanently remove your active profile, twin content, chats, invitations, uploaded files, and sign-in account, subject to legally required retention and provider backup cycles.
We may change or discontinue features, or suspend access, when reasonably necessary for maintenance, security, safety, legal compliance, or misuse. If we make a material change to these Terms, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service or another appropriate channel and seek renewed agreement when law requires it.
11. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not promise that AI output will be accurate, authentic, complete, uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for a particular purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, remedies, or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, reliance on AI output, or conduct of another user. This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability caused by fraud, intentional misconduct, gross negligence, or infringement of mandatory personal-information rights where applicable.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve a dispute. If a dispute cannot be resolved, it may be submitted to a court with lawful jurisdiction at the Company’s domicile, except where mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
14. Contact and complaints
For support, complaints, safety reports, or questions about these Terms, email support@merrou.com. Please do not include passwords or unnecessary sensitive information in your message.
